RAIL bosses at Abellio Greater Anglia believe the latest punctuality figures for trains running through Brentwood and Shenfield have showed an improvement in their service.

The line between Liverpool Street and Southend Victoria, which travels through Shenfield and Brentwood, is the train operator’s most punctual route, with 94.6 per cent of trains running on time for the year ending on March 31.

For all routes, Greater Anglia had an overall 91.1 per cent punctuality rate for the 12 months and 93 per cent of journeys were on time in March, higher than the national average of 91.2 per cent.

Managing director Jamie Burles said: “We’re pleased to have provided better train performance for our customers during March, with some excellent results across a number of our routes.

“We know we have more to do to achieve better results on a more consistent basis, for all of our services, but these figures show positive progress.

“We will continue to work closely with Network Rail to further improve performance.”

But David Kendall, of the Brentwood Bus and Rail Users Associa tion, said: “I feel for the amount of money shelled out on fares by those in Brentwood, it should be close to 98 per cent.

“People spend so much money, they deserve a decent service.”
