ALMOST 86 percent of children in Brentwood got into their first choice of primary school – but 126 didn’t.

A total 770 pupils out of 896 were granted first choice, much to the delight of their parents.

There were 46 pupils though who didn’t get into any of their first four choices. While 53 pupils got their second choice and 27 pupils got their third or fourth choice places.

The numbers are similar to those county-wide. Of the 16,500 pupils who applied for school places in Essex, around 87 percent also got their first choice.

There were more than 500 pupils though – about three percent - that missed out on any of their four choices.

Chris Kiernan, the interim director for commissioning education at Essex County Council, said: “I am delighted we have been able to offer the majority of children their parents’ first preference primary school, despite the growing pressure on places.”
