THE RSPCA is appealing for information after a second cat was fatally shot in Brentwood on earlier this month.

Angel, a distinctive white cat with black spots, was shot just eight miles away from where tabby Wilma was killed in Ongar on 1 May.

The four-year-old cat was found on May 13 after she made her way to her home in London Road, Brentwood. It was at first thought she had been in a road accident, but upon closer inspection the pellet hole was found in her left side.

Angel was rushed to a vet, but the pellet had gone through her stomach and caused serious internal injuries. Sadly she had to be put to sleep to prevent her from suffering further.

It is thought that Angel was shot in the daytime and managed to drag herself back home. The severity of her injuries meant that she must have been shot close by as she wouldn’t have been able to move very far.

RSPCA inspector Adam Jones said: “This attack happened less than two weeks and just a few miles from where Wilma was shot. It may have been the same person but sadly these attacks are becoming all too common so it may have been unrelated.

“Either way we urgently need to track down whoever was responsible as there are several cats that live in London Road and we don’t want any more animals to have to suffer in this way.

“Air weapons cause a huge amount of unnecessary suffering and no one should ever be using them on an animal.”

We are still appealing for information about the person who shot Wilma at the Ongar allotments. If anyone has any information about either attack they should contact the RSPCA appeal line in confidence on 0300 123 8018.

Anyone found guilty of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal could face a maximum six-month prison sentence and/or a £20,000 fine.
