Brentwood County High School is preparing to hold its second Community Day next month.

Every pupil and member of staff will spend the special day, which takes place on June 19, working to improve their community, whether taking on projects at care homes or sheltered housing, clearing parks or working with churches, youth groups, sports clubs and nurseries.

Some pupils will spend the day in school working with pupils from local primary schools towards a sports event or making things in Resistant Materials, Textiles or Food.

The school wishes to thank companies and organisations which are welcoming the pupils and staff into their work areas and those companies who are donating equipment and materials to help make the day successful.

These are Nibs Buses, Booth & Co, Sainsburys, Hobbycraft, Wilkinsons, Travis Perkins, Halfords, Essex Hire, B & Q and Balgores Estate Agents.

A school spokesman said: "This day is another part of our push to make sure that Brentwood County High School is at the heart of our local community.

"For our young people it is a chance to have a widening of their education by taking part in community projects for the day.

"We all benefit from the work of so many groups and people in our community, and as a school we should ensure that we enable our young people to experience volunteering if they do not already do so, or to widen their experience of volunteering in the community for those who already do so."

Stephen Drew, Headteacher added: “We look forward to our second community day providing our students, staff and governors with opportunities to support our local community. "This event is a key part of our wider education and community engagement programme.”
