Brentwood County High School were delighted to hear that they were successful in a funding application made to the Education Funding Agency recently.

The school applied for the Priority School Build, round 2 (PSB2) funding opportunity in July 2014 and heard their bid application had been successful in February 2015.

The PSB2 is a capital funded project, which will undertake rebuilding and refurbishment projects across 277schools from 2015 to 2021; 6 of the schools are located in Essex.

The following schools were chosen from the Essex area: Chipping Ongar Primary School, The FitzWimarc School, The Deanes School, Ramsden Hall School, Water Lane Primary School, Mark Hall Academy Brentwood County High School.

The Education Funding Agency visited BCHS in May and their scoping team are currently working on plans to address the school’s many condition related needs.

The scheme’s aim is to improve the standard of school buildings so that students learn in high quality classrooms and teachers have access to the best facilities is a vital part of the government’s long term plan for education and will help build a stronger economy and a fairer society.

£2 billion will be invested in rebuilding or refurbishing buildings at 277 schools across England, under the second phase of the government’s flagship Priority School Building Programme.

260 schools are already benefiting under the first phase of the programme, bringing the total number to receive a revamp to 537.

This announcement is a major step towards ensuring all children no matter what their background and no matter where they live have access to the best possible schools and learn in an environment that gives them the knowledge and skills to succeed in the global race.

Stephen Drew, Headteacher at Brentwood County High School said “We are delighted to have been successful in our bid to the Department for Education for funding to improve the buildings and facilities at BCHS.

"We have already had our first meetings with representatives of the Education Funding Agency who will oversee the funds and project for us.

"The scope of the project is yet to be finalised, but it is clear that BCHS is going to enjoy substantial government investment to improve the learning of the young people and wider community who enjoy the benefits of our school.

"Within a few short years we look forward delivering an even better education experience in greatly improved buildings which will complement our beautiful older buildings.”
