The Rotary Club of Ingatestone held their 18th Charity Golf Day at the Maylands Golf Club, Harold Wood.

Seventy one golfers (eighteen teams) took part this year, and had to endure some squally weather during their round of golf.

Even if many of them were not too successful with their scoring, they had the satisfaction of contributing greatly to some worthy causes

This year, it was held in support of two local charities, The Helen Rollason Cancer Charity and S.N.A.P(special needs and parents), Brentwood.

Like last year the day had a major sponsor in MWBEER & Co. Ltd a local business based in Ingatestone UK. M W Beer is a major supplier of edible oils and fats to refiners and food manufacturers internationally.

Their contribution made a huge difference to the amount raised.

In addition there were many sponsors of the eighteen holes, mostly from within the Rotary Club, but also three Ingatestone businesses, Patrick Green, Teddy’s Kitchens, and Avrohurst (office supplies)

Vice Patron of the Helen Rollason Charity, Sir Trevor Brooking, took part during the day.

He gave an amusing after dinner speech about his own career, and also about his friendship with Helen, and the Charity that was set up following her death

In addition, there were the Tombola, Raffle and Silent Auction contributions, and an open auction for two West Ham tickets in the director’s box.

Thanks here go mainly to Sir Trevor, Malcolm Fritschy of Oldeani,Chelmsford (corporate promotions), Ian and Barbara Hepburn of Hepburn’s of Shenfield and Lifestyle at Clair Gallery ,Shenfield, and seven local golf clubs.

These four fund raisers brought in over £2000!

The total that was raised for the complete day was just over £6000.

First low handicap golfer was Bryan Thompson of the Five Lakes team with 36 stableford points, playing off a handicap of 13, and the high handicap winner was Tony Bermingham, also from Five Lakes, with a magnificent 42 points , playing off 22.

Finally the team prize went to the Lucky Larcombes, from Margaretting and Chelmsford Golf Club (pictured below).

The second, third and fourth team spots were all filled with teams from Five Lakes.

A great day for two great charities was had by all those present, and who kindly donated their time and money to make it such a success
