A MEMBER of Essex Police will appear in court on firearms charges.

David Sims, 69, a firearms enquiry officer, has been summoned to answer three counts of possessing a firearm of length less than 30cm, which is a prohibited weapon, possessing ammunition without a certificate and possession of a firearm without a certificate.

Sims has been suspended from his role, which includes processing firearms licence applications, after an internal discipline investigation.

He will appear at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, July 21 The alleged offences came to light after an internal audit prompting an investigation in to Mr Sims' firearms and shotgun certificates.
