Essex County Council has today launched a consultation to collect public views on the relocation of the Essex Register Office, which includes the Statutory Marriage Room.

It is currently located in Brentwood and the proposal looks to move it to a more central location in Chelmsford.

Brentwood residents will still have local access to a full registry service for births, deaths and marriages.

Essex County Council’s Cabinet Member for Customer Services, Libraries, Planning and the Environment, Cllr Roger Hirst, said: “We would like to provide this county-wide facility in a more central location which is why we are launching this consultation today.

“The Statutory Marriage Room should be provided at the location of the Essex Register Office (known in Essex as the Head Office).

"We would like to relocate this Head Office to Chelmsford.”

The consultation is open to all Essex residents and will run from Thursday, July 16, to Tuesday, September 8, 2015.
