More than 17,000 canisters of nitrous oxide were confiscated, 63 people were arrested and 248 people were ejected from this weekend's V Festival.

Fifty-three of the arrests were for drug related offences, many of which were identified following the help of the sniffer dogs at the entrance.

Policing Commander, Chief Supt Simon Williams, said: "I’m really pleased with the great coordination work from all our officers with the organisers, security team and local authority, who worked tirelessly to ensure the event was both enjoyable and safe.

"Despite the overall success of the festival, a large amount of people ignored the warnings around the selling and consumption of legal highs.

"We seized over 17,000 nitrous oxide canisters and ejected 248 people due to the new powers following the introduction of the Public Space Protection Order (PSPO).

"The use of the PSPO and ejection tent was new to V-Festival this year and showcased our multi-agency capabilities to prevent anti-social behaviour and crime.

"The initiative will be developed for future events and will continue to send out the message that if you behave in an anti-social way, bring in items you shouldn’t and try to gain entry by unlawful means, you will be ejected.

"As always, we enjoyed policing the event and look forward to V-Festival 2016.

"We received many positive comments and high levels of engagement from members of the public via our social media channels and we’d like to thank all those who enjoyed V-Festival in a safe way.

"If you have been a victim of crime, please do report it to us by calling 101.”
