An information event will be held by Brentwood Council to raise awareness of Domestic Abuse. It is estimated that one in four women and one in six men will experience domestic abuse in their lifetime.

To highlight the issue and encourage victims to report problems they are experiencing and access support an information event will be in the High Street outside Marks and Spencer on Wednesday 25 November between 10am-12pm.

Members of the public will be able to get advice and information and talk to officers as well as Neighbourhood Watch, Victim Support and MenShed.

It follows an event organised by Safer Brentwood and Essex Police, which took place at The Spread Eagle last Monday.

Members of the public and organisations committed to tackling domestic abuse in Brentwood met to raise awareness and share ideas.

Brentwood Borough Council's Chair of the Community and Health Committee, Councillor Will Russell, said: "Tackling domestic abuse is very important; it can have a devastating effect on the victim and also impact the whole family.

"It is a difficult subject to talk openly about, but we want people to know that there is help available.

"The information event on Wednesday is aimed to raise awareness of the issue and encourage sufferers to seek help, whatever their circumstances."

Anyone who is affected by domestic violence can also get help and support from Safer Place by calling 0845 017 7668 or visiting www.saferplaces.co.uk
