NORTH Weald Airfield became a sea of pink as more than a thousand woman took part in the Cancer Research Race for Life, in a bid to help conquer cancer.

The event, saw sponsored participants running, dancing and walking the 5K and 10K courses amid roaring support from crowds on Sunday July 17.

Some women wore fancy dress, others wore bright pink running gear, and others had the names of loved ones they had lost to cancer tacked onto their backs.

Gill Burgess, Race for Life Event Manager for Essex, said: “We are so grateful to everyone who’s taken part in Race for Life, not just in Chelmsford this weekend but across the county this summer.

"Without our supporters and our heroic volunteers we wouldn’t be able to do our vital research.

“Each year more and more people are diagnosed with cancer, so there’s still much more to do."

One in two people in the UK will be diagnosed with cancer at some stage in their lives.

But now more people are surviving the disease now than ever before with survival rates doubled since the early 1970s.

The charity aims to save three out of every four people diagnosed with the disease by 2035.
