BRENTWOOD council has declared its vision for the next Olympic games.
The Olympic flag was waved in Brentwood as the Beijing games came to a close on the weekend.
The council's vision for the 2012 games was laid out, following a lost bid to host an Olympic mountain biking event at South Weald Country Park earlier this year.
Brentwood was one of 500 Olympic flags flying to mark the handover between Britain and China.
The council hopes to have at least ten borough residents seeking selection in the Olympic or Paralympic games, with at least three actually taking part.
Other targets includes a cultural festival and more residents taking part in sport, £5 million of business from the London games benefiting the borough and a schools programme.
Council leader Brandon Lewis, said: “The council is proud to fly the Olympic handover flag at the town hall. It'll be a symbol of our commitment to ensuring Brentwood makes the most of the exciting opportunities afforded by the games.”
