A MOTHER wants road bosses to look at a treacherous road bend after her daughter was one of four drivers to crash there in 24 hours.

It was a miracle 20-year-old Connie Zinonos escaped unhurt after her Mini skidded and careered into a ditch, while she was driving along Warley Road, towards Brentwood, last Wednesday night.

The next day, three other motorists lost control at the same bend, near Stonyhills Farm, leading to one 78-year-old woman being taken to hospital.

Now worried mum Katherine Zinosos, 40, of Parkstone Avenue, Hornchurch, has called on Essex County Council to do something about the 60mph stretch.

She said: ”When I got the call from Connie saying she’d had an accident I was so afraid.

“After I knew she was OK I started to think what if she’d hit a tree, she could have died.

“Then when I was down there the next day recovering her car, I heard a crash and saw a car hit a tree nearby.

“Fifteen minutes after that another young man hit a tree about 10ft away.

“It was ridiculous, none of the drivers were even speeding. Something has to be done.”

Essex Police confirmed there were four collisions between Wednesday and Thursday, and there was another at 11.15am on Tuesday morning.

June Grief, of Stonyhill House, which is right by the bend, said crashes were a regular occurrence, adding: “We’ve been here for nearly 40 years and we’ve seen so many accidents.

“The camber of the road is all wrong, it throws drivers off balance as they turn the bend. They also come down here so fast.

“The advice of the police is unless there are more fatalities, they won’t do anything about it.

“It’s no good just putting up slow down signs, we need something more on the road.”

Lionel Lee, Brentwood councillor in charge of highways, said: “I’m going to ask for a report before the next highways committee with input from police, local councillors and any residents, and we’ll make some decisions on how we can combat this.

“It might be speed needs to be reduced, but we’ll look into it.”
