A BRENTWOOD councillor has slammed county hall bosses for the lack of consultation over a proposed new nuclear power station at Bradwell.

David Kendall, Lib Dem Essex County Councillor for Brentwood South, wants the county council to put pressure on the Government to role out a public consultation to all Essex residents.

Plans to fast track a new nuclear plant on land next to the defunct Bradwell power station were announced by the House of Commons by Energy and Climate Secretary Ed Miliband last month.

He posed the motion at a full council meeting this week, but councillors voted against it.

Mr Kendall said: “There needs to be much greater public awareness of what is happening in the county on nuclear power and our residents’ voices need to be heard on this very important issue.  “Sadly the Conservatives running Essex County Council failed to support my motion and chose instead to nail their colours to the Government’s nuclear power mast.  “I believe they have missed a great opportunity to widen the democratic process.”
