DROP-IN clinics are being held in Brentwood to make sure teenage girls get the HPV vaccine to help protect them against cervical cancer.

Two sessions are being held so girls aged between 12 and 18 can pop in, without making an appointment.

The clinics run from 3pm until 7pm on Tuesday, June 1, and Tuesday, June 8, at Brentwood Community Hospital, in Crescent Drive.

Kathy Abbott, head of immunisations at NHS South West Essex, said: “The HPV immunisation is made up of three separate injections into a girl’s arm.

“The jab is just a quick scratch and it’s all over.

“It is really important girls complete the course of injections and have all three jabs within six months to ensure they get the best protection possible against the HPV virus, which can lead to cervical cancer.

“We are running drop-in clinics in Brentwood where girls can come and have the jab from one of our nurses who will make it as quick and painless as possible.

“They don’t need to make an appointment, just show up.”
