Game stores saved in buyout

JOBS have been saved after a high street chain was saved from administration.

Computer game chain Game entered administration on March 26, threatening the future of 333 UK stores.

The prospect of closure also meant 3,200 people would be out of work, including workers at the store in Brentwood High Street.

However, administrators reached an agreement to sell Game’s UK assets to Baker Acquisitions.

Baker Acquisitions acquired the business out of administration and will provide capital for Game to trade on a normal basis.

Mike Jervis, administrator to The Game Group, said: “This means the Game brand will not be another one of the retail names disappearing from the high street in the current difficult climate.”
