DRIVERS are being urged to be safe this weekend.
Essex County Council is urging motorists to plan ahead for any journeys this May's bank holiday weekend.
A council spokesperson said that traffic was likely to start building up from Friday afternoon, with congestion on all the main routes in and out of the county.
He added that there could be delays for popular sporting events, with a three-day cricket match at Chelmsford, football at Southend on Saturday and a speedway event in Thurrock.
There are also roadworks with a 50mph speed limit on the M11.
