Residents to have more say over country parks

COUNTRY parks in Brentwood are to be jointly managed by borough and county councils.

Decision-making powers on both Weald Country Park and Thorndon Country Park will now be made by both Essex County Council and Brentwood Council under the partnership arrangement between the authorities.

A panel will be set up, comprising a majority representation of councillors from Brentwood Council, to make decisions on the future development of the parks.

Both authorities say that the arrangement will mean Brentwood residents will get to have more say in how the parks are run.

Tracey Chapman, cabinet member responsible for country parks at Essex County Council, said: "I know how important these parks are to local residents, and how passionately they feel about them, which is why this joint management is so important.

"This truly is giving back control of local facilities to local residents."

Brentwood Council leader Brandon Lewis added: "Thorndon and Weald Country Parks are an important part of the Brentwood landscape and residents feel very passionate about them.

"By jointly managing them Brentwood will have more of a say in what happens at the parks to make them the best they can be for all residents and park users."
