BRENTWOOD Council has praised residents for helping it to achieve its recycling targets.
The authority recycled 41.2 per cent of waste in 2007/08, beating the Government's target of 30 per cent.
The amount of waste sent to landfill sites was also reduced by three per cent last year, which is two per cent better than the county average.
Russell Quirk, chairman of the council's environment panel, said: "Our residents are very supportive of the recycling schemes we have put in place.
"Furthermore, they are also conscientious in their efforts to reduce the amount of waste they send to landfill. Well done Brentwood."
