ONE of Brentwood's most famous residents swapped the snooker table for the poker table and netted nearly $30,000.

Steve Davis, six-time snooker world champion, took part in the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in Las Vegas as captain of Europe's largest team, Team Ladbrokes.

The 39-year-old finished 389th in the event, meaning he finished in the top five per cent of players and beat off stars such as Australian cricket legend Shane Warne.

He took home a total of $28,950 from the event, billed as the biggest event in the poker calendar.

Mr Davis said: "Being out in Las Vegas at the WSOP was once again a fantastic experience.

"I made it through to the fourth day of the tournament, seeing off over 6,000 players on the way and am really pleased with my performance.

"I ended up getting knocked out by a poker legend, Hoyt Corkins, but it was a great experience and my love of poker continues."
