BRENTWOOD could have its own town festival if a leading councillor gets his way.
Liberal Democrat leader David Kendall believes that the town should have a show or festival in the style of other boroughs in Essex such as Southend and Castle Point.
Mr Kendall and Roger Davinson, chief executive of Brentwood Leisure Trust, have spoken about the idea following a meeting with other councillors.
Now Mr Kendall wants Brentwood Council to consider the idea and start the ball rolling.
He said: "If the show or festival is going to happen it will need the full support of the borough council to drive it forward.
"In the first instance I will be looking to get cross party support for a feasibility study to be undertaken to see if we can turn the idea into reality.
"I am sure there will be many obstacles along the way but if the powers that be and most importantly the people of Brentwood embrace the idea then I don't see why it cannot happen.
"Other towns have done it so why shouldn't Brentwood?"
