Latin flavour for Jazz Mix

CHRISTMAS will have a Latin flavour as the Jazz Mix throws its seasonal bash next week.

The regular night at the Maritime Rooms, Cliffs Pavilion, Westcliff, will see a visit from King Salsa, one of the UK’s top Latin jazz outfits, who will be sure to warm up the chilly winter evening with their lively dance tunes.

Formed in 1986 by percussionist and drummer Robin Jones, the band has spent the past 20 years or so establishing itself as something of an institution for Latin – mainly Cuban – music, dance and folklore.

The current King Salsa line-up is an international cast of superstar musicians, including Brazilian Bosco De Oliveira, Carlos Fuentes from Chile, lead vocals from Cuban Enrique Bringas plus local musicians Marc Cecil on timbales and Chris Kibble on keyboards.

The rhythm section also includes pianist Terry Callier and the band features an outrageous five-piece brass section that creates an electrifying outfit.

Jazz Mix promoter Mick Crook says: “If you are a lover of salsa music these guys are one of the best outfits in the UK and I’ll promise you’ll not be disappointed.

“If you know people who love the music, maybe they belong to a dance club, go tell them about it and let’s fill the place to bring in Christmas in true Latin style.”

King Salsa play at the Jazz Mix on December 22 at the Maritime Rooms, Cliffs Pavilion, Westcliff.

Doors open at 8pm. Tickets are £10 on the door, £5 for students.
