Wroxham 2 Brentwood Town 0

A THIRD successive league defeat in the space of five days all but ended Brentwood’s play-off ambitions with three away games, culminating in Saturday’s long trip to Norfolk, proving too much for the squad.

Even so, Brentwood must have thought they deserved to get something out of this game, especially after dominating the second half for long spells.

Brentwood made a few changes from Thursday and they were without scorer Alex Read who was injured in the game at Maldon.

Both sides seemed to be lacking in the final third and it was a game of few chances settled by two Wroxham goals very late in each half.

The nearest Brentwood went to a goal in the first period was in the 45th minute when Abs Thompson flashed a shot just wide after good work by Steve Butterworth.

But in the third minute of stoppage time Wroxham centre half Andy Eastaugh put his side ahead, forcing home from close range following a corner.

Brentwood pressed hard for an equaliser in the second half but the nearest they came to a goal was from a Daryl Robson cross that was met by a point-blank header by Ross Wall that was blocked on the line.

Wroxham clinched their win when Ben Thompson got clear in the 90th minute and finished well, shooting across Brentwood keeper Richard Wray to score off the inside of the far post.

Brentwood Town: Wray, Doyle, Llewellyn, Henty, Stokes, West, Thompson, Robson, (Cousins 88), Wall, Butterworth (Bantick 81), Cohen (Frost 71). Unused subs: Seymour, Cross.
