MEMBERS of Brentwood Bowling Club are celebrating a week of successes with more top honours and runners-up awards.

The club’s ladies have become this year’s Warleywoods League triples champions and pairs champions after strong wins.

In the triples, Ann Betts, Alison Dartnell and skip Margaret Rayment beat Ingatestone 23-7 in the final played on a neutral green at Liberty of Havering.

The first few ends were shared fairly evenly but once the Brentwood bowlers mastered the rink, they pulled away and steadily increased their lead.

Wet weather conditions seemed to suit the Brentwood players who scored valuable points with longer jacks.

In the pairs competition, Julie Dixon and Pam Robinson won 23-9 in the final against Haynes Park played on the same neutral green.

The club’s male players are this season’s runners-up after meeting Haynes Park in the final of the Essex County Bowling Association area triples competition.

The final was held at a neutral venue where two rinks were in play. Although each club won on one rink, Haynes Park prevailed with the overall score 52-35.

Brentwood’s winning rink – John Howard, Geoff Byatt and skip Adam Smith – had a closely-fought game, rolling in two on the last end to win by just one shot.

The second rink – Les Powell, Byron Davies and skip Ron Lofts – played a game of two halves. They were holding by 14 shots to 10 at the half-way stage but stalled on the last nine ends while their opponents added 22 to their tally.

Brentwood’s Les Powell was runner-up in the ECBA men’s singles championship open to unbadged players from 17 clubs in the Brentwood and Havering areas.

Brentwood Bowling Club has announced plans to expand its successful beginners' programme next summer and anyone interested in taking up the sport is invited to get in touch through the club website www.brentwoodbowls.co.uk
