SOUTHEND United boss Steve Tilson says both sides in Saturday's massive derby encounter want different things.
He said: “Colchester will want to get closer to the play-offs and Southend want to get to 50 points. We currently have 37 and once we get 50 we can reassess our targets for the remainder of the season.”
Tilson hopes to pick up three more points against the U’s but he will be treating the encounter as just another game.
“For me it’s no different to playing anyone else — but I know it’s a different story for the fans,” he said.
“There are still three points awarded for the winners and it’s the same as you get for beating anyone else.
“We’re fired up though and want a good reaction from losing on Tuesday to give our supporters something to cheer about.”
Southend will be roared on by 1,800 travelling fans on Saturday but Tilson does not understand why Colchester did not give them a bigger allocation.
“We’ve sold out all the tickets they gave us and I just don’t understand why they couldn’t give us any more,” said the 42-year-old.
“When I went to watch them against Tranmere there was only 3,600 there so it’s a strange one and I think there might be a few Southend fans in the home end.”
