Brentwood failed to make the most of a two goal advantage in the first half, as Romford came back to earn a deserved draw at the Brentwood Arena on Tuesday night.
Blues were without influential captain Steve Good, who failed a fitness test following a hamstring injury picked up at Wingate & Finchley on Saturday.
Kicking with the wind, Blues had the better of the first period.
It was Dee Okojie who began to open up the Romford defence with a series of raids on the right wing and he was rewarded with the opening goal in the 26th minute.
Romford tried to hit back quickly and Boro’s Kurt Smith produced a good run and was only thwarted by a timely tackle by skipper for the night Reiss Noel.
In the 35th minute Brentwood lost goalkeeper Jim Hasell, who was suffering with food poisoning, and his place was taken by substitute keeper Nick Pyne.
Brentwood made it 2-0 in the 42nd minute. Sweeney did the hard work and put Ross Parmenter through on goal and he produced a good finish for his first goal for Blues.
Romford needed to hit back quickly and Brentwood could not hold out until half-time. Toran Senghore hit a tremendous shot to reduce the arrears in the 45th minute.
Brentwood came under increasing pressure in the second half and they conceded the equaliser in the 65th minute from a corner. Kavanagh’s kick was only partially cleared and Smith pounced to net from close range.
The draw means Blues move up one place to 16th in the Ryman North table. They stay one point ahead of Romford.
