The only way is Essex for the Leopards!

BASKETBALL: Leopards have announced that their official name will be Essex Leopards from the start of the 2012/13 season.

When the club were re-formed in 2004 they adopted the name Essex & Herts Leopards, winning the National Cup in 2005/6, before adopting the name of London Leopards in 2006.

However, with 20 of last season’s 21 home games having been staged at Brentwood Centre and Basildon Sporting Village, and much of the club’s community work taking place in the area, the club have decided on a change of name.

“We’re part of the Essex sporting community now, and we need a name which reflects that,” said Leopards’ managing director Gareth Roberts.

“We will continue to run our successful community programme in east London as it’s beneficial to both the kids we’re coaching and the club, but we’re looking to build on programmes in the Basildon and Brentwood areas.”
