Ambitious Leopards aim for BBL place

LEOPARDS will be defending the three titles they won in 2012 when the new basketball season tips off in September.

The Big Cats won the National Cup in January and then added the Division One League and Play-off crowns to their trophy cabinet, and will continue to play in the England Basketball League in 2012/13.

However, the newly named Essex Leopards are already planning for the 2013/14 season when they are quietly confident they will be playing in the British Basketball League.

Managing director Gareth Roberts said: “The last 12 months have been an amazing time for our club, both on and off the court, as we look to move forward in all areas. I would like to thank everyone who has helped in any way to make this possible.

“We have been working closely with the BBL now for a number of months to bring top level basketball back to Essex and feel the decision to remain in the EBL for one more season is the right one for the long-term sustainability of the Leopards.

“We are continuing to work with the BBL and hope to be able to confirm our position for the 2013-14 season shortly.

“We look forward to being able to put a strong team back on the floor again this coming season as we aim to retain the three trophies we won last season, and maybe going one better by adding the National Trophy.”

Further information about Leopards 2012/13 fixtures, coach and players will follow in the next few weeks.
