BRENTWOOD Town brought an end to their poor run of home results with a well-earned point against Thamesmead Town.

The Blues lost their two opening games at the Brentwood Centre Arena but they took the lead after just two minutes on Saturday when Courtney White headed past Rob Budd in the Mead net.

But Sean Roberts cancelled out White’s goal in the second half, maintaining Thamesmead’s unbeaten start to the season.

With two games in the space of 48 hours over the Bank Holiday weekend, Brentwood bosses Adam Flanagan and Danny Dafter made four changes to the team that lost to Harlow Town on Tuesday.

And the changes paid off as White, retuning to the starting XI in place of Alex Akrofi, opened the scoring in the second minute when he rose highest to head home Sam Bantick’s inswinging corner from just a couple of yards.

Despite the home side’s advantage, Thamesmead were the better team for much of the first half and they enjoyed plenty of possession but failed to really test Blues’ goalkeeper Ollie Bowles.

Brentwood were invigorated after the break and Dafter went close but his acrobatic effort was cleared off the line by Rob Carter.

Moments after the Blues’ chance Keith McMahon’s Thamesmead got back on level terms when Roberts caught Bowles off guard to fire in from 20 yards.

The match was there for the taking late on and the introduction of Akrofi and Jason Dobbs injected some pace into the Brentwood side, but neither team could find the net and they were left to settle for a draw.

The point moves Brentwood up to 18th, level on points with Redbridge who they face on Bank Holiday Monday at Oakside.

Brentwood: Bowles, Stokes, Baucutt, Robson, Alaile (C) (Dobbs 61’), O’Rawe, Bantick, Dafter, Stanley (Akrofi 69’), White, Rees (Webb 81’).

Unused subs: Ngandu, Mbulu.
