BASKETBALL: Former Leopard Dan Clark faces an anxious wait to see if his hand is broken as Great Britain prepare for the European Championship in Lithuania next week.

The 22-year-old power forward suffered the injury in Sunday’s 91-90 overtime loss against Australia at the new Olympic Park in Stratford, and doctors have yet to be able to X-ray his hand due to the swelling.

Clark had enjoyed a good tournament until then, helping GB defeat a China side coached by former Leopards’ play-caller Bob Donewald, and also close to beating European powerhouses Croatia and Serbia.

Meanwhile Leopards women’s forward Shaquilla Joseph helped England under-16s win promotion to the top flight of women’s basketball in the B Division tournament in Romania.

Joseph led the team in scoring with 12.9 points per game as they won four of their five qualifying stage games before going on to the beat the hosts 63-50 in the quarter-finals and Latvia 51-40 in the last four to seal promotion.

A narrow 65-63 loss to Germany in the final saw them forced to settle for silver medal, but England will compete in Division A for the first time next season.

Joseph also finished top of the tournament in steals, averaging 2.8 per game.
