BRENTWOOD TOWN 3 HEYBRIDGE SWIFTS 3 IN a fluctuating game of three penalties, Brent-wood grabbed a point with a 93rd minute spot kick from Ryan Doyle. Blues were without their injured defender Reiss Noel so Gbenga Sonuga made his first Ryman League start of the season, while midweek signing Dave Collins came in at left back.

Both sides scored penalties within the space of little more than a minute in the first half.

The game sprang to life after 12 minutes when Doyle brought down Billy Hawes and Chris Bryan put Swifts ahead from the first penalty kick of the afternoon. But Doyle soon made amends, converting from the spot when Ryan O’Rawe fouled Steve Butterworth in an almost identical incident at the other end.

Brentwood then went ahead in the 27th minute – there seemed little danger on the edge of the Heybridge area, but Joel Barnett surprised everyone when he hit a well-executed volley that found the bottom corner.

Heybridge almost equalised immediately, but Bryan shot over from a very good position.

Dean Green was just off-target with a header from a Doyle cross in the 33rd minute and Blues probably felt they were worth their half-time lead, which they could have increased early in the second half.

Butterworth put Green through in the 53rd minute, but the striker slightly overran the ball and had to settle for winning a corner as Swifts keeper Ollie Morris-Sanders came off his line.

From the corner Doyle shot well over the bar from 12 yards and, soon after, Heybridge hit back strongly with two goals in three minutes.

Luke Callender was unlucky with a volley in the 56th minute, but within a minute Heybridge skipper Danny Barber put his side level with a good finish after a spell of pressure from the visitors.

And in the 60th minute, Blues were stunned as Callender found space to put his side in front once more.

Brentwood sub Ellis Remy was unlucky when he connected with a spectacular overhead effort in the 78th minute, but the ball went straight into the arms of Morris-Sanders and it looked as though Heybridge had done enough to earn the three points.

But Blues managed some late pressure on the Swifts defence as the game went into stoppage time, and they got their break when Taylor Hastings handled and the referee awarded the third penalty kick of the afternoon.

Doyle took his chance to equalise for his second goal of the afternoon.
